educator’s toolkit
The standards-based, high-stakes testing environment that we now live in has had a major affect on the work of public school teachers. This environment is not necessarily concerned about improving the democratic sensibilities of our children; rather, passing the test drives this model. As educators we wanted to challenge this perspective towards learning by providing lesson plans, action research projects, and other source materials that will allow educators to use the standards as minimum expectations as we push for a broader understanding of teaching and learning. Each of the materials provided in this section are researched-based and are designed to serve as samples on how to incorporate the standards into lessons designed to increase the democratic mindset of our students. Please use and adapt these as you wish. We also encourage you to submit examples of your our work to our community of learners.
